The men and women of Long View Fire
Department form a highly qualified team
dedicated to providing the community with
first quality fire protection services. As is
still common in this and many other parts of
the country, volunteer and paid on call fire
fighters are the majority and are relied upon
heavily by their respective communities.
While these individuals are occasionally
criticized by "arm chair quarterbacks," it
should be noted that they are held to the
same professional standards as their paid
counterparts. They contribute numerous
hours each month, training, attending
meetings, assisting in apparatus and station
maintenance and of course, fighting fire and
performing other community services. Their
personal sacrifices save the tax payer,
untold amounts of money every year.
Few fire fighters consider themselves to be
heroes. Full time, part time or volunteer,
they get up in the morning, put their pants
on and go to work, just as other Americans
do every day. The Hollywood glamorization
of the American fire fighter is simply that.
Fire fighters do not walk through flames.
Nor are they fearless. An experienced, well
trained fire fighter knows that he or she
can burn or suffocate just as easily as the
public they are charged with protecting.
Therefore, it's critical that all personnel be
adequately trained to analyze and evaluate
each situation quickly but carefully before
taking any action.
We're proud of our fire fighters and their
efforts to attain and retain various
certifications which enable us to provide a
superior level of service to the community.
Below is a complete list of our personnel
and some of their basic qualifications.
